General Tso’s Chicken

General Tso Chicken is one of America’s favorite “Chinese American” take out foods. It’s delicious bite sized pieces of chicken, fried to perfection and covered with this delicious sweet, savory and sticky sauce. I love serving this dish with rice. Once you make this dish, you will never be calling for take out… it’s better! I greatly appreciate your support and love hearing from you. General Tso Chicken: Ingredients:

1 1/2 lbs Chicken Breast or thighs cut into bite sized pieces

Marinade:

1 Egg

1 tbs Corn Starch

1 tsp each: Low sodium Soy Sauce and Sesame Oil Cornstarch 

Batter:

1 Cup APF

1 cup corn starch

1 tsp each: baking soda; rice wine vinegar; sesame oil and Shoaxing wine.

Sauce:

3/4 cups low sodium chicken broth

3 tbs Brown Sugar

1 tbs each: Hoisin, Rice Wine, Shaoxing Wine, Soy Sauce & Sambal

4 garlic cloves minced

1 tbs chili flakes

Cornstarch slurry (1 tbs water mixed with 1 tbs cornstarch)

Garnish: Green onions and sesame seeds

Serve with rice and enjoy!

Instructions:

1. Cut your chicken into bite sized pieces and mix with the marinade ingredients. Marinade for at least 30 minutes. After 30 minutes has passed, coat your chicken pieces in the cornstarch batter.

2. Heat up your oil to 350 and fry your chicken until light golden brown and set aside for 20 minutes.

3. Mix Chicken broth, brown sugar, hoisin sauce, rice wine, shoaxing wine soy sauce and sambal.

4. On low, in a pan, take a tsp of the chicken oil and saute garlic and chili flakes. Once fragrant, add the sauce and bring to boil, add slurry and simmer until thicken.

5. Heat up the chicken oil to 375 and add your chicken pieces. Cook for about 30 seconds.

6. Drain oil, add chicken to a bowl and toss with sauce.

7. Garnish with green onions and sesame seeds.

8. Eat immediately
