If you like grilled cheese sandwiches, you will love this! It’s a fried cheese Sammy- It’s a cross between a grilled cheese Sammy and those breaded mozzarella sticks. Who doesn’t love melted cheese between two crunchy slices of bread..YUM! This recipe is also easy to follow!

Ingredients: (serves 1)

  • Sliced freshed mozzarella thinly sliced- as many as you want. I like to double up my cheese and use two slices. (Make sure to drain off excess liquid of the fresh cheese).
  • 2 slices of bread
  • 2 fresh basil leaves chiffonade
  • Fresh ground black pepper to taste
  • all purpose flour- enough to coat both sides of the bread
  • 1 egg beaten
  • butter and olive oil to “fry” the bread.

Optional:  Serve with my Simple Marinara Sauce.

Instructions:

  1. Top 1 bread slice with cheese, basil leaves, and black pepper and cover with other slice of bread.
  2. Heat up oil and butter (medium heat)- enough to coat bottom of pan (we are not deep frying this sammy).
  3. Dredge the sandwich in the flour and then the egg mixture.
  4. Place bread in the pan and cook until cheese melts and the bread is golden brown.
