Summer is here and when I think of summer, I think of the county fair. Hot dog on a stick is one of my childhood favorite fair foods – easy to eat while walking around =) I decided to add cheese to my corn dogs, but you can definitely omit this step.
Ingredients:
- 1 package of your choice of hot dogs (8 hot dogs total)
- 8 slices of Kraft american cheese (Optional)
- 1 cup of corn meal
- 1 cup of all purpose flour
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/4 cup of sugar
- 1 1/2 cup of milk
- 3 tbs flour for dusting
- 8 wooden skewers
- Oil for frying
Instructions:
- Dry hot dogs with paper towel.
- (Optional)- Wrap dogs with cheese. If you’re wrapping your dogs with cheese, place hot dogs in the freezer for 20 minutes.
- In a bowl, mix flour, corn meal, baking powder, salt and sugar.
- In a separate bowl, beat eggs and milk together.
- Mix dry ingredients with egg and milk mixture until well combined.
- Insert skewer into the end of the hot dog, pushing it almost all the way through, leaving 1/2 inch of tip.
- Dust hot dogs with flour and tap off excess flour.
- Pour batter into a tall drinking glass.
- Dunk hot dog into the glass and slowly pull out. Make sure hot dog is covered with batter.
- Fry corn dogs in oil and turn corn dogs in the pot so all sides are cooked to golden brown.
