Filipino Spaghetti

Noche Buena is coming up (Filipino celebration during Christmas Eve), so I thought I’d make a Filipino dish that is usually served during this celebration. In this video, my nephew and I will show you my version of Filipino Spaghetti. If you are not sure what Filipino spaghetti is, it is spaghetti cooked with a sweeter tomato sauce, cheddar cheese, hot dogs, and ground beef. This is definitely on of my favorite childhood dishes and I love making this because I only use one pot (less dishes to wash).
Serves: 4-6 people
Ingredients:
1 lb of ground beef or ground pork (I used ground beef)
1 package of spaghetti noodles
1 package of button mushrooms
2 hot dog links sliced (You can use Filipino hot dogs)
1 onion chopped
4 garlic cloves minced (or as many as you want) + Garlic powder (optional)
48 oz of your favorite jarred spagehetti sauce (I used Ragu)
12 oz bottle of Jufran banana ketchup
1/4 – 1/2 cup of shredded cheddar cheese + extra for garnish
Red Chili Flakes, Salt, and Pepper
Directions:
- Fill a pot of salted water. Bring to boil and cook spaghetti to al denti according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
- In the same pot, add oil and saute your hot dog slices until brown. Place hot dogs on a plate lined with paper towel. Ditch the oil.
- Add oil and saute your onions, garlic, and red chili flakes until fragrant.
- Add ground beef and cook until brown. Drain off excess oil.
- Add hot dogs and mushrooms to meat mixture.
- Season mixture with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
- Add spaghetti sauce and banana ketchup. Season if needed.
- Bring mixture to boil and simmer for 30 min – 1 hour. The sauce will thicken.
- After sauce thickens, add the cheese and mix until melted. Adjust the seasoning if needed.
- Turn off heat and mix spaghetti noodles with sauce.
- When plating, garnish spaghetti with more cheese. ENJOY!
